Report: India mulls imports of 9 mln tns of Russian wheat
NEW DELHI, Aug 3 (PRIME) -- India is considering importing 9 million tonnes of wheat from Russia under an intergovernmental agreement, The Economic Times reported on Thursday citing people familiar with the matter.
"The Centre is considering import of 9 million tonnes of wheat from Russia via a government-to-government deal to augment domestic stocks amid rising prices," the newspaper said.
India's wholesale wheat prices grew by 6.2% in 2023 to 2,600 rupees per 100 kilograms, or U.S. $31.9 because of a low production, falling reserves and growing demand. A government restriction on the amount of grain reserves and market sales contributed to the dynamics.
